As a mother of a Special Needs son I have had to face hard situations and thanks to the Jersey Village Police we have been able to keep our son safe. I am a proud supporter of JVPD and will continue to support and promote their success.
I have seen what happens when an undertrained officer is called to a scene of an individual with Special Needs, I've seen how easily it could go haywire. One of the qualities of JV that attracted my family to plant our roots here was how well trained and supported the JVPD is. Chief Riggs has cultivated a police force that is diverse, caring, honorable & accessible. As councilwoman, I would show continued support for training and compensation. I would encourage the public outreach to continue and grow, as well as ensure that Jersey Village is able to stay up to date with technology.
Our vigilant police department sets our city apart from the rest of Harris County and surrounding vicinities. I will show continued gratitude and appreciation, not just as a Special Needs mother, but as a citizen of Jersey Village. According to City-Data.com the 2019 crime rate in JV was 1.5 times lower than the national average. I believe that with continued support from City Council and it's citizens, Chief Riggs can drive that even lower. In the same 2019 data the average law enforcement officers per 1,000 people in Jersey Village settled at 3.25, nationally the average was 1.79. Continued employment of well trained individuals will keep this number higher and our crime rate lower than the national average.
